Placement Assessments with Support Package
Comprehensive placement assessments paired with a bespoke therapeutic support package — equipping foster carers and professionals to meet each child's needs with confidence and care.
What This Service Is
Assessment and support, together
A placement assessment on its own identifies needs — but knowing what a child needs and knowing how to meet those needs day to day are two different things. HAPii's Placement Assessment with Support Package brings both together in one integrated service.
The assessment provides a detailed, attachment-informed picture of the child's emotional, relational, and developmental needs. The support package then equips the foster carers, kinship carers, or residential team with the practical tools, strategies, and guidance needed to translate those findings into real-life care.
This service is appropriate when:
- A child is being placed or has recently been placed in foster or kinship care
- A placement is under strain or at risk of breakdown
- Carers are struggling to understand or respond to a child's behaviour
- A child is moving between placements and needs a clear care picture
- A looked-after child review has identified significant unmet needs
- Professionals need an independent, evidence-based assessment to inform planning
- A placement is being considered for long-term approval or permanency
The Placement Assessment
Child-focused clinical assessment
A comprehensive, attachment-informed assessment of the child's emotional functioning, relational patterns, developmental needs, trauma history, and presentation within the placement. Where appropriate, direct work with the child is included.
Carer and placement assessment
Structured interviews and observation with the foster or kinship carers to assess their capacity, therapeutic parenting skills, relational attunement, and ability to meet the specific needs of the child in placement.
Documentation and professional review
Review of relevant care plans, placement history, professional reports, and any court directions — ensuring the assessment is grounded in the full picture of the child's history and current circumstances.
The Support Package
Bespoke carer guidance
Practical, written guidance tailored to the individual child — covering therapeutic parenting strategies, regulation support, and attachment-informed responses to the child's specific behaviours and needs.
Implementation sessions
Follow-up sessions with carers to model strategies, review progress, troubleshoot challenges, and adjust the approach as the child settles and develops within the placement.
Psychoeducational input
Evidence-based psychoeducation to help carers understand the child's behaviour through the lens of attachment and trauma — building empathy, reducing burnout, and strengthening the placement relationship.
Professional network liaison
Where required, HAPii liaises with the wider professional network — social workers, schools, residential teams — to ensure a joined-up approach that reflects the assessment findings across all settings.
What You Receive
A detailed written report
A comprehensive, professionally written assessment report suitable for care planning meetings, looked-after child reviews, court proceedings, or fostering panel — clearly articulating the child's needs and placement recommendations.
A personalised support plan
A practical, child-specific support plan outlining strategies, targets, and recommended next steps — written in accessible language for carers and professionals alike.
A healing toolkit
Where appropriate, a set of play-based, psychoeducational, and regulation resources tailored to the child's developmental stage and relational needs — for everyday use within the placement.
